3 Journey Tips to Remember

As a young adult finding their way in this world, I’ve realized that navigating this journey can become difficult at times. That’s a no brainer. There will come times where there’s bumps in the road but your perspective makes all the difference. I came up with a Guidebook which consists of helpful tips for maintaining a positive outlook on life.

Beautiful Bumpy Road

There may be bumps in the road but you will prevail.

Lessons is blessings therefore failure is only possible when you quit.

1. SUCCESS IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION

With social media making life look like a piece of cake through filters and fakeness, I have found myself comparing my behind the scenes to someone’s highlights.

“Comparison is the thief of joy.” - Theodore Roosevelt

Try not to look at someone else. Every one of us are on our own unique journey. Success is wonderful but it is NOT a destination. The man who loves walking will walk further than the man who loves the destination. There is so much to see and experience in between where you are and where you want to be. The destination really doesn’t matter because if you miss what life was trying to teach you on your journey you may reach your destination but you will face the same battles. Love yourself enough to enjoy every bit of your journey. Success is awesome, but if you miss the quality of the journey you will soon find misery in the success.

2. PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION

It is okay to be a perfectionist. I will admit they produce some of the best work. However, the desire to be perfect can be implausible and unhealthy. Have you ever started a project but failed to finish because your perfect image isn’t coming to life? So have I. Life will throw curve balls and what you do with them makes all the difference. Somethings things may seem like they’re falling apart but in actuality it’s all apart of the higher power’s plan for you and your journey. Perfection is admirable but progress is authentic. Take your time but be intentional and work effectively. Everything won’t be perfect, especially on the first go round. If you develop a progressive mindset, you will make progress and you may find yourself stumbling upon greatness, perfect or not.

3. SLOW PROGRESS IS STILL PROGRESS

Have you ever heard, slow and steady wins the race? I’m pretty sure you have.

“Long term consistency trumps short term intensity” - Bruce Lee

As long as you’re deliberate in your actions and intentional with your target, this ideology is effective. It’s almost like a penny that doubles every day and a quarter that doubles every week. In one week your penny is at $0.64 and your quarter is at $0.25. There don’t seem to be a drastic difference but in 4 weeks your penny is at $1,342,177.28 (that is one million, three hundred forty two thousand, one hundred seventy seven dollars and twenty eight cents). Your quarter that doubles every week is at $2.00. Now that’s comical! A quarter doubling 4 times a month is intense because the value is much more than just a penny but a penny doubling everyday is much more consistent which is why the outcome is much greater. That said, it is okay to move slowly, as long as you’re consistently making progress.
